Lalime and Miller

Patrick Lalime is a beloved figure in the Buffalo Sabres' locker room. Players were downright offended when he was booed last March in HSBC Arena and Ryan Miller gave him a shout-out from the podium while collecting his Vezina Trophy at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

Those factors certainly had to enter into the team's thinking when it came to re-signing the 36-year-old for a third season as Miller's backup...

I think that having Lalime who is a good backup goalie is important because of the fact Miller gets fatigued after only a couple of games and quickly starts making mistakes. 

Puck Drop 2010 this Thursday

This Saturday the Sabres are starting off training camp this year with Puck Drop 2010 which is going to be a day long event. The new third jersey will also be officially reviled to the public.

The doors will open at 9 AM to the event.

Other “Puck Drop 2010” events include live music in the plaza area by The Carl Motyka Band from 12 Noon-3 p.m.; current Sabres and Alumni available for autographs throughout the day; food and drink available for purchase both inside and outside the Arena; and a Sabres Kidz Zone featuring interactive games. The Sabres Puck Patrol will also have three street hockey rinks set up outside. Children under 12 must wear a helmet to participate, and it is recommended that you bring your own sticks and equipment.

“Puck Drop 2010” will also play host to the third annual Buffalo Sabres Adult Street HockeyFest on the streets surrounding HSBC Arena. This is a day-long street hockey tournament featuring men and women ages 18 and up. The first games will begin at 9 a.m.

The Sabres' new jersey

The Sabres were planning on releasing their new 3rd jersey to the public on September 18th, however photos of the new jersey have already been leaked. The new jersey is in honor of the Sabres' 40th Anniversary season.

The Buffalo on the front of the jersey is much like the Buffalo Bisons, who preceded the Sabres. Team officials have yet to confirm if this will actually be the new jersey.

The new jersey will officially be announced at Puck Drop 2010, an all day event on Saturday, Sept. 18th. Training camp also opens on this day.
